Tip Pool Calculator
One pot, a team that all worked different hours. Enter the amount, give each person their hours and share points, and you see straight away what everybody gets. The total always adds up to the cent.
How it works
- 1
Enter the pot
The total you are splitting: cash, card tips, or both together. Add the period you are paying out — 'week 31', 'Saturday 14/9'.
- 2
List your team underneath
Hours worked and share points per person. One point is a normal share: put a trainee on 0.5 and your maître d' on 1.5. If the kitchen shares in at 70%, give the kitchen 0.7.
- 3
Print the payout sheet
One block per team, with hours, points, amount and a column to sign. Tips are your people's money — that sheet is your proof it was handed over.
Frequently asked questions
How does this calculator split the tips?
Every share is: pot × (hours × points), divided by the sum of all hours × points. That single formula covers every model hospitality actually uses: equal per hour worked (everyone on 1 point), front and back of house weighted differently (kitchen on 0.7, say), or a trainee on half a share.
What if I don't track hours?
Just leave the hours column empty. As long as nobody has hours filled in, the tool splits per head by points — an equal share for everyone on 1 point.
Why does the total always match exactly?
Because nobody's share is rounded on its own. Each share is first rounded down to the payout step you choose (€0.01 for a transfer, €0.05 or €0.50 when you have to count out cash) and the leftover steps go one by one to whoever was closest to the next one. Anything that genuinely cannot be split at a coarse step stays visible as 'left in the pot' — it is never quietly dropped.
Is my data stored anywhere?
No. Everything stays in your own browser (localStorage) and is never uploaded; names and amounts do not leave your device. Tips are taxable income, though — how you declare them differs per country, so ask your accountant.
