Pre-Shift Briefing

The sheet you read out two minutes before service: who's on, how many covers you're expecting, who's coming in tonight that matters, what the kitchen 86'd, and tonight's one focus. And the thing you promised to fix last time? It stays on the sheet until it's actually resolved.

How it works

  1. 1

    Fill in tonight

Who's on, how many covers you're expecting (or import them from your Covers Forecast tool), who you need to know about tonight, and what the kitchen 86'd or is running as a special.

  2. 2

    Log one thing to fix

Something went wrong last night — the till was slow, the bread ran out twice? Add it to the list. It stays there, on every following briefing, until someone ticks it resolved.

  3. 3

Read it out and print it

One sheet for the pass. Anything still open from an earlier service jumps out, so it never quietly gets forgotten a tenth time.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is a pre-shift briefing?

The short moment right before service where the whole team is told the same things: who's on tonight, how many guests are coming, who needs special attention (an allergy, an anniversary, a large party), what the kitchen has run out of, and today's one focus. Without it, the floor finds things out only after a guest already asked.

Why don't my 'things to fix' just disappear?

Because that's exactly why a paper briefing doesn't work: it gets binned every night, so the same problem — the slow till, the bread that ran out twice — gets flagged and forgotten ten times a year. This tool keeps every open fix on the sheet, with how many days it's been open, until someone actually ticks it done.

Can I pull covers in from another tool?

Yes. If you already use the free Covers Forecast tool, this page reads — on your own device only, nothing is sent anywhere — tonight's logged number or its prediction for today, so you don't have to retype it. You can always overwrite the figure.

Is my data saved anywhere?

No. Everything stays in your own browser (localStorage) and is never uploaded. Clear your browser data and the sheet is gone — print it if you want to keep it.
