Frequently asked questions
Can I put my own wines in it?
You switch on styles, not bottles — deliberately. A venue swaps one Sauvignon for another without the advice changing; the waiter reads “crisp dry white” and picks whatever is in the fridge that week. Put the bottle names in the notes or on your wine list.
Why does it sometimes say nothing fits?
Because that is the truth. A crème brûlée under a dry wine is not a weaker recommendation, it is the wrong one — the glass has to be sweeter than the dessert. Rather than hand you the least bad bottle, the tool names the dish and says which style would solve it.
Is this the same as my wine list?
No. Your wine list is for the guest and lists what is in the cellar. This sheet is for the floor and says what belongs with which plate. The two should sit next to each other.
Do I have to tick alcohol-free?
You do not have to, but the question reaches the table more often every year, and a waiter with nothing to name sells tap water. Tick one or two alcohol-free options and every dish gets a soft recommendation too.
